Deborah Wadsworth

Public Agenda

Deborah Wadsworth joined Public Agenda as Executive Director in 1986 and served as President from 1999 until her retirement in September 2003. She currently serves as a Board Member and Senior Advisor to Public Agenda. For 17 years, Mrs. Wadsworth was the spokesperson for Public Agenda on issues of national concern. She has written extensively on contemporary issues that were the focus of Public Agenda research and was called upon regularly to speak to congressional committees, business groups, community groups, academic institutions, and major policy organizations.

Prior to coming to Public Agenda, Mrs. Wadsworth was Executive Director of the Smart Family Foundation and Program Officer of The Markle Foundation. As Director of Admissions at the State University of New York (SUNY) at Purchase from 1974 to 1979, Mrs. Wadsworth developed a national student body for both its College of Letters and Science and its Professional School of the Arts.

Mrs. Wadsworth serves as a Board member of the Education Development Center, Inc., and the Public Education Network. She is also Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Bennington College.

A graduate of Wellesley College, Mrs. Wadsworth holds a graduate degree in Public Law and Government from Columbia University.
