Jonathan Cohen is an educator-clinician. He is the president and co-founder of the Center for Social and Emotional Education; Adjunct Professor in Psychology and Education, Teachers College, Columbia University; Adjunct Professor in Education, School of Professional Studies, City University of New York; Co-chair, the National School Climate Council; and a practicing child and adult clinical psychologist/psychoanalyst. He is the author of many books and papers, including the recent volume Making Your School Safe: Strategies to Protect Children and Promote Learning (Teachers College Press, 2007). He consults to schools, districts and State Departments of Education about measuring and improving school climate and social, emotional and ethical education. Currently, is most interested in working to narrow the socially unjust gap between school climate research on the one hand and school climate policy and practice on the other hand.
