Ryan Hill is Founder and Executive Director of TEAM Schools, a network of KIPP schools in Newark, New Jersey. Prior to this role, he taught for two years in a public school in New York City and was the founding principal of TEAM Academy Charter School, the first KIPP school in New Jersey. Under his leadership, TEAM Schools has grown from one grade level with 80 students in 2002 to three schools with 700 students and alumni in grades 5-10, with plans to grow to at least 5 schools serving 2,400 students by 2014.
Over the past six years, TEAM students have posted some of the largest achievement gains in the nation, with its first class rising from the bottom quartile in the nation in math and reading upon entering in 5th grade, to the upper quartile in reading and the top 10% of the country in math upon exiting after 8th grade. TEAM Academy has been featured in numerous publications, such as New Jersey's The Star-Ledger, The New York Times, The Harvard Crimson, and London's The Independent. Mr. Hill graduated from the University of Wisconsin, completed KIPP’s Fisher Fellowship, and has a master’s degree from National-Louis University.
