Taysen Van Itallie New Jersey State Division of Law Director, Assistant Attorney General
Prior to being appointed Director of the New Jersey Division of Law, Taysen Van Itallie was the Associate General Counsel of Johnson & Johnson with responsibility for global litigation, where he managed a group of 15 litigators. He is also responsible for the Latin American Law Group. He joined Johnson & Johnson in 1996 after nineteen years at Patterson Belknap Webb & Tyler in New York City, where he had been a partner since 1985.
At Patterson Belknap, Taysen's litigation practice included trial and appellate work in the fields of product liability, antitrust, patent, employment and general commercial litigation. He is a 1977 graduate of Columbia University School of Law where he was Kent and Stone Scholar and a 1973 cum laude graduate of Harvard College.
Taysen is admitted to practice in New York and New Jersey as well as before multiple federal district courts and courts of appeal.
Taysen is a mediator, and has been a member since 2004 of the Panel of Certified Mediators for the U.S. District Court, District of New Jersey. Taysen is a member of the Executive Committee of the CPR Institute for Dispute Resolution.
Taysen is active in the civil justice reform community. He is co-chair of the operating committee of the Civil Justice Reform Group, which is composed of the general and senior counsel of forty-three major U.S. corporations. He is President of the New Jersey Lawsuit Reform Alliance is also on the board of the American Tort Reform Association.
Taysen is one of the founders, a past chairman and a member of the executive committee of the Chief Litigation Counsel Association.
